Amounts come from regulation 49 of the NT Traffic Regulations 1999 (version in force at 28 May 2026), checked October 2026: $135 for stopping or parking in a disabled person's parking bay, $50 for stopping where prohibited, $40 for other parking infringements. They are fixed dollar amounts, not penalty units, so no penalty unit conversion applies. The regulation says 'unless otherwise specified', so check the amount printed on your notice.

Infringements load overnight, so online payment works from the next business day.

Who fines you

City of Darwin rangers issue parking infringements in the CBD. Litchfield and Palmerston officers issue their own in their areas.

How to pay

  • Online through City of Darwin eServices
  • By phone on 08 8930 0300 (Visa, Mastercard or American Express)
  • BPAY is not accepted

If you pay late

  1. 14 days to act.

Pay, request a review, nominate the driver, or elect to go to court.

  2. The reminder.

After the deadline a reminder notice adds $42.

  3. Enforcement.

After 14 days a City of Darwin courtesy letter ($42) gives another 14 days to pay. After 28 days the fine goes to the Fines Recovery Unit, which adds costs and can take enforcement action. Once lodged there, the council can no longer withdraw it.

An unpaid $40 overstay keeps growing, and ends with your licence or registration on the line. Pay it, or dispute it, inside the first 14 days.

Disputing a fine

Lodge an infringement review within the 14-day window. If you were not the driver, email a Statutory Declaration to darwin@darwin.nt.gov.au for a change of offender.

Reviews that succeed usually have evidence:

  • The notice number and your vehicle details
  • Photos or a paid PayStay receipt
  • A Statutory Declaration if someone else was driving
  • Medical or permit documents if relevant

Not getting one

  • Read the sign where you park, not the one across the road. Time limits start when you arrive. See how to read Darwin parking signs.
  • 1/4P bays give 15 minutes free.
  • Tap I parked here on Rangr Dangr and set a 2P timer. If a neighbour reports an inspector near your car, your phone buzzes.
