In short
- City of Melbourne and the other councils issue the fine. The amount is set by the state, and unpaid ones go to Fines Victoria.
- $105 for overstaying or not paying, $209 for No Stopping, $209 for a disabled bay.
- You have 21 days to pay, request a review or elect court. Then a reminder ($30.00 extra), then enforcement ($155.60 (Notice of Final Demand); a further $68.00 if an Enforcement Warrant issues extra).
- Ask the issuing council for an internal review using the form on its fines page, and attach evidence. Photos of the sign and your paid session are what win a review.

City of Melbourne says its 2026-27 parking fines range from $104 to $209 and it cannot change them.
Who fines you
Council parking officers issue most fines, on the spot or by post. Victoria Police can also fine for road-rule parking offences.
How to pay
- Online through the issuing council or Fines Victoria with the infringement number
- At any Australia Post outlet with the notice
- A payment plan can be requested
If you pay late
21 days to act.
Pay, request a review, nominate the driver, or elect to go to court.
The reminder.
After the deadline a reminder notice adds $30.00.
Enforcement.
Another $155.60 (Notice of Final Demand); a further $68.00 if an Enforcement Warrant issues. After 21 days a Penalty Reminder Notice adds a fee and gives 14 days. Then a Notice of Final Demand adds a larger fee and gives 21 days. After that Fines Victoria can suspend your licence or registration and the Magistrates' Court can issue an Enforcement Warrant, so sheriff's officers can wheel-clamp or seize the vehicle.
An unpaid $105 overstay keeps growing, and ends with your licence or registration on the line. Pay it, or dispute it, inside the first 21 days.
Disputing a fine
Ask the issuing council for an internal review using the form on its fines page, and attach evidence. If a fine has reached Fines Victoria you can request a review there; there are 5 grounds and generally one review per fine. You can also nominate the real driver, or take the matter to court.
Reviews that succeed usually have evidence:
- Photos of the signs and where you parked
- Receipts or app records showing you paid
- Medical or breakdown evidence for exceptional circumstances
- Proof you were elsewhere or sold the vehicle for mistaken identity
Not getting one
- Read the sign where you park, not the one across the road. The clock starts when you arrive. See how to read Melbourne parking signs.
- Up to 15 minutes of on-street parking was reported as free under the 2023 reform.
- Tap I parked here on Rangr Dangr and set a 2P timer. If a neighbour reports an inspector near your car, your phone buzzes.
