Newcastleparking fines,decoded.

The amounts, the deadlines and the review process, in plain English, for drivers in Newcastle, NSW. From the state schedule in force since 1 July 2025.

  • $140Overstay or no ticket
  • $330No Stopping
  • 28 daysTo pay or dispute

In short

  • City of Newcastle issues the fine. The amount is set by the NSW Government and collected by Revenue NSW.
  • The common ones: $140 for overstaying or not paying, $330 for No Stopping and most safety offences, $704 + 1 demerit point for a disabled bay.
  • You have 28 days to pay, request a review or elect court. Then a reminder (about $25 extra), then an enforcement order (about $65 extra).
  • No windscreen notice? They can still post it, but it must be issued within 7 days.
  • Reviews go through Revenue NSW online. Photos of the sign and your paid session are what win them.

The amounts

These apply across NSW, including Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter. They are from the schedule in force from 1 July 2025.

No Stopping in a school zone$4232

Two things not on that list. Bus lane and transit lane offences caught on camera sit on a separate schedule, around $387 and one demerit point. State-run precincts such as Sydney Olympic Park use a reduced schedule. Nowhere in Newcastle does.

Who fines you

In Newcastle the council's parking officers and its Mobile Parking Patrol car issue the notices. The officer photographs the offence and the notice. Fines are normally placed on the windscreen. If that is not possible (the camera car, or you drove off) the notice is posted by Revenue NSW on behalf of City of Newcastle, and under the rules that started on 1 July 2025 it must be issued within seven days of the offence.

NSW Police can also issue parking fines, and they go through the same Revenue NSW system.

How to pay

  • Online at Revenue NSW with the penalty notice number.
  • By phone on 1300 130 112.
  • By mail using the slip on the notice.
  • A payment plan is available if you cannot pay in one go.

Paying closes the matter. Parking fines carry no demerit points except the disabled bay and school zone offences above, and they are not tax deductible.

If you pay late

  1. Days to act.

Pay, request a review, nominate the driver, or elect to go to court.

  2. The reminder.

After 28 days a penalty reminder notice arrives, adding a fee of about $25 and a fresh 28 days.

  3. The enforcement order.

Another fee, about $65. Revenue NSW can then suspend your licence or registration, take money from wages or a bank account, or send the sheriff.

An unpaid $140 overstay is about $230 by the enforcement stage, with a licence suspension on top. Pay it, or dispute it, inside the first 28 days.

Disputing a fine

Ask Revenue NSW for a review online within the 28 days. City of Newcastle sends review requests straight to Revenue NSW. Requesting a review pauses the clock while they look at it.

Reviews that succeed usually have evidence:

  • A photo of the sign that applied to your bay, with the hours visible.
  • A screenshot of your EasyPark session or your meter ticket showing the time.
  • The fault reference number if the meter was broken and you reported it on 1300 373 077. A time limit still applies when a meter is out of order.
  • A medical or breakdown reason, with paperwork.

Revenue NSW can also waive a first minor offence for a driver with a clean history, or cancel a notice on hardship grounds. If a review fails you can still elect to have the matter heard in court, but a court can impose a higher penalty plus costs.

Not getting one

  • Read the sign where you park, not the one across the road. The clock starts when you arrive, and a new ticket or app session does not reset it. See how to read Newcastle parking signs.
  • In 1P and 2P Ticket/Phone zones the EasyPark app gives you the first 15 minutes free. Start a session even for a quick stop.
  • Tap I parked here on Rangr Dangr and set a 2P timer. If a neighbour reports a ranger near your car, your phone buzzes.

Good to know.
