NSW indexes penalty amounts each July. These come from the 1 July 2025 schedule; check your notice for the amount you owe.

City of Sydney ranger notices are reviewed by Revenue NSW, not the City; call 1300 138 118 or write to PO Box 786, Strawberry Hills NSW 2012.

Photos of the offence can be viewed through Revenue NSW's View camera image service.

Who fines you

Council rangers and parking officers issue most parking fines, and NSW Police can too. Councils cannot change the amount; it is set by the NSW penalty schedule.

Since 1 July 2025 officers must attach a fine or notification to the vehicle. If they did not, and no exception applies, the fine must be sent within 7 days of the offence or it is invalid and must be withdrawn.

How to pay

  • Online at Revenue NSW (QuickPay) with the payment reference on the notice, or via myPenalty
  • By phone on 1300 130 112 (Mastercard or Visa)
  • BPAY, or in person at Australia Post or a Service NSW centre
  • A payment plan is available on 1300 138 118

If you pay late

  1. 28 days to act.

Pay, request a review, nominate the driver, or elect to go to court.

  2. The reminder.

After the deadline a reminder notice adds about $25.

  3. Enforcement.

Another $65 for adults ($25 for under 18s) is added when a fine goes overdue. If you miss the due date Revenue NSW sends a reminder notice that gives a further 28 days. If it is still unpaid an overdue fine is issued with $65 added. Revenue NSW can then suspend your licence, cancel your registration, take money from your bank account or wages, and have the Sheriff seize goods.

An unpaid $140 overstay keeps growing, and ends with your licence or registration on the line. Pay it, or dispute it, inside the first 28 days.

Disputing a fine

Ask Revenue NSW for an internal review through myPenalty, MyServiceNSW or by post, ideally before the due date. If you were not the driver you can nominate the driver online. To elect court, apply before the reminder notice due date.

Reviews that succeed usually have evidence:

  • Proof of identity such as address, date of birth or licence number
  • Photos of the signs, your parking spot and your vehicle
  • Meter ticket, app receipt or permit
  • Medical or travel records for special circumstances
  • The meter number and call centre reference if a meter was faulty

Not getting one

  • Read the sign where you park, not the one across the road. The limit counts from when you park. See how to read Sydney parking signs.
  • Tap I parked here on Rangr Dangr and set a 2P timer. If a neighbour reports a ranger near your car, your phone buzzes.
